Chapter markers are already part of the file, and text flows without page-break clutter. If your ebook exists as EPUB, start there. DRM-locked copies bought from a retailer's own store are the one thing that blocks upload outright - you need a file you actually own the rights to convert.
Manuscripts convert well once chapter headings are marked consistently. The failure mode we see most is leftover track-changes edits or reviewer comments in the file: left in, they get read aloud as if they were part of the story.
A PDF exported from a word processor still has a text layer and converts, though multi-column layouts can break into a fragmented reading order. A scanned PDF - a photo of printed pages with no text layer - has nothing to read at all until it goes through OCR first, and OCR mistakes turn into audio mistakes.
What usually breaks a conversion, whatever the format: embedded images used as chapter titles (no text to read), tables and footnotes tangled into body text, and front matter that gets narrated as if it were chapter one. We strip and flag these before narration starts, not after.
Not sure which file to send? If you have an EPUB, send the EPUB - it needs the least cleanup of the three, and it is the one export most ebook and word-processing tools can produce in under a minute.

EPUB, DOCX and PDF. We strip headers, footers and notes, and read numbers and abbreviations correctly so the narration sounds natural.
Always. You own the master files and set your own retail price - unlike Apple's free AI narration, which takes the rights and locks you to Apple Books.
